Who's on trend?
Just want to point out this recent article on Houzz, about using white subway tiles with gray grout. Way ahead of you, Houzz. Well, I have the tile already. But I was totally planning on getting grout. Specifically Delorean Gray grout at Home Depot, because that's just the coolest grout name ever.
Oh, or maybe I should do Dove Gray instead. This is what happens when I ask questions of Google.
This is a picture of a bathroom where they used Delorean Gray:
I'm having trouble finding a picture of a room that used Dove Gray, but it's lighter. Will add one later if I can find it.
Here's another Delorean photo:

Nice, or too dark? |

Mirror? Medicine cabinet? Mirrored medicine cabinet?
Ikea seems to be the cheapest around when it comes to mirrors and medicine cabinets. I went over there the other day but was kind of underwhelmed. But still, I might go with a combination of these (maybe a mirror over the sink, plus a mirrored cabinet over the toilet).
The only negative with the tilting mirror is that I probably wouldn't be able to put a shelf under it if I want to.
Or, you know, I could go crazy and spray-paint this a glossy white:
But I suppose that doesn't really go with the overall look...
I guess what I'm taking out of this is I probably should wait till I have walls and a floor to be deciding on mirrors and cabinets. I'm just worried I'll hold John up if I don't have something ready. I should probably be focusing on more structural things, like the pocket door and shower door.
BUT -- while I'm thinking of accessories, I did like the Lillholmen series of accessories from Ikea. Other things I wrote down from my trip (to keep in mind):
Grundtal towel rail (with two bars and hooks)
Grundtal glass shelf (stainless brackets, could fit under or above a mirror)
Skar cabinet with mirror
Godmorgan mirror
Lillangen mirror cabinet with two doors
Lillolmen glass shelf
Stave mirror in medium brown (it looks like they don't carry this stain anymore??)
Molger step stool (for in the shower) -- eh, maybe not? It's birch, and it sounds like you'd have to strip off the coating in order to stain it to match the teak. Blech.

Shower door
Giving up on the pivot shower door idea. Just too expensive. So I think I will probably go with this?
$299 from Home Depot (Kohler) |
Oh yes, let me just get out my credit card!
The BookBike. |
I just had to laugh when I saw this on my blog reader. This admittedly awesome looking bookcase/bike rack can be yours for a mere $3,600. It is very pretty, though...
But yeah, anyway, this is more where I'm heading (for the living room/bathroom wall that currently has a door in it but won't once we move the door into the hallway):
The Gearup Floor to Ceiling Rack in oak fits two bikes (and can fit more with attachments) for a perfectly respectable $125.99. |

Shower head!
I know you've been eagerly awaiting the results of my shower head poll.
This also means all my fixtures are going to be brushed nickel instead of chrome. That was a nail-biter.
The Telford (I totally did not pay the price listed on Moen's Web site.) |
